Day at a Time Wins WPCI Communication Contest
May 19, 2008
Indianapolis, Ind. - Mary Anne Barothy, author of Day at a Time:
An Indiana Girl's Sentimental Journey to Doris Day's Hollywood and
Beyond from Hawthorne Publishing, was awarded First Place for
non-fiction books in the Woman's Press Club of Indiana 2008
Communications Contest. The judges' comments were: "The author has
navigated that difficult journey between personal memoir and biography.
The book is revealing and candid... an engaging, honest, slice of a
star's life. A pleasure to read."
Day At A Time details the time Barothy spent working for Doris Day.
Formerly a society reporter for The Indianapolis News, Barothy achieved
a fervent wish when she became Doris Day's personal secretary from
1971-74 while Ms. Day was filming "The Doris Day Show" at CBS. A
resident in the star's home, she was privy to a unique view of the life
of and happenings surrounding Ms. Day. Sometimes controversial, this
book offers never-before-seen photographs and stories of the Hollywood
star.
