A Real Sentimental Journey With Doris Day!

Doris Day and Mary Anne Barothy

Writing my memoir DAY AT A TIME – An Indiana Girl’s Sentimental Journey to Doris Day’s Hollywood and Beyond”  was just the beginning of an interesting ride.  Not only was I thrust upon the world wide stage with my unique Hollywood tale, but have had the opportunity to share my story with my personal memorabilia from my private collection with fans around the country.

In 2008 my book “DAY AT A TIME” won an award from Woman’s Press Club of Indiana and also from the National Federation of Press Women.

Since publication of my book in late 2007 I have given more than 100 talks and book signing all over Indiana and also in Ohio, New York, Minnesota, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.  I have been on several national radio interviews and also one with  ABC Australia. Because of the interest in my story with America’s Sweetheart, I am featured in an “Across Indiana” TV show which airs frequently on PBS.  There continues to be interest in Doris Day despite the fact she has been out of the public eye for almost 40 years.  I give my audience an up-close and personal look at Doris Day, the lady whom I have admired for 50+ years, and I would be happy to talk to your group.

Last year, one of the highlights of these talks was meeting Marian Bonekamp Collins, now 91 at a talk in Cincinnati.   In 1937 she was the teenage companion friend to then Doris Kappelhoff,  While on a double date, they, along with their dates, were in a horrific train wreck that changed the focus of Doris Day’s aspirations from dancer to singer/actress.  I have since become friends with Marian.  She has taken me on an incredible tour of Cincinnati highlighting many of Doris Day’s early haunts.  It is always most interesting to meet with people who have had some connection with Doris through the years and share stories.  I am happy to relay my ‘dream-come-true’ story and let people know what it was like to meet, work for and live with my idol, Doris Day!
