It’s Labor Day here in the US, but today, September 5th, is THE day that all Doris Day fans have been waiting for – the release by SONY in the UK of her latest CD called “MY HEART”.  The Google Alerts have been buzzing with all kinds of alerts about her much anticipated CD.

Yes, Doris Day is making a comeback!  The twelve songs feature several new songs and some old ones by Joe Cocker, Lovin’ Spoonful and the Beach Boys.  Most anticipated is her son’s rendition of “Happy Ending” with an intro by Doris herself.  Another treat on this CD is a new version of “My Buddy” which she originally recorded in her 1951 movie “I’ll See You In My Dreams” but now dedicates this song to her beloved son, Terry Melcher, who died of melanoma in 2004.  I had the pleasure of knowing Terry very well while I worked for Doris and, for a time, worked for him and Bruce Johnston at RCA.  What a loving and creative person he was.  I had the pleasure of going to the recording studio with Doris when she recorded “These Days” with Terry for his ‘Terry Melcher’ album in the ’70s.  My fondest memory of Terry was the time he came into my office at Doris’s home.  Terry put his arms around me and lovingly said, “Thanks for taking care of my Mom.”

While spending some time with Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys fame recently, he was also talking about Doris’s new CD which he worked on many years ago.  We both agreed that the ‘google alerts’ made it sound like she just stepped out of the recording studio.  He was quick to  tell me that this was all done many years ago and he wished her the best of luck with her “new” CD.  A couple of Bruce Johnston’s songs appear on the new DD CD including “Disney Girls.”

Yes, Doris has been making the rounds doing numerous interviews including one with Sir Paul McCartney hyping her new CD.   It is obvious that SONY has put Doris on a rigid promo schedule as 2-3 ‘google alerts’ appear daily about her “My Heart” CD.  Doris Day had been one of Columbia Records (now SONY)  best -selling artists for 3 decades.  Now with this new CD out, it will be interesting to see the reaction from fans young and old.  It seems a new generation of fans is about to get their day – Doris Day!

A portion of the proceeds from “My Heart” will go to Doris’s charity, The Doris Day Animal Foundation.
